Volume 5

Greetings from all of us here at Heavens Harvest Farm,

We love this seasonal fall weather! Our late season crops are moving along with the late sun and ample rain. All farmers hope that what they planted late will mature but, that is not always a given.

I knew an old farmer (95 at the time) who said if you aren’t losing some of the first and last plantings you are not planting early or late enough. Sound but scary advice.

We have delightful organic Beauregard sweet potatoes from Czajkowski Farm in Hadley this week along with the vitamin packed Avocado fruit, organically grown by Homestead Organic Farms from Florida. As we move towards the end of our fall share, we will continue to use local produce and also include great produce sourced from our Southern partner farms.  You the consumer receive the best of all worlds; certified local and East coast organics. As last year, our winter shares will have a varied combination of local storage type veggies and fruit and quality sourced organic vegetables and organic citrus along with strawberries from the Southern route. Imagine fresh veggies and fruit in January!

Please allow your avocado to ripen outside the refrigerator for 1-3 days checking it each day for softness.   Make sure that you take advantage of the recipes that Sarah works so diligently each week to provide and send us your as well.

The corn this week is definitely that last.  Separate the kernels from the cob with a sharp knife and make delicious corn and potato chowder.

We are looking to have a share-holder party the Saturday after Thanksgving week-end.  That will be Saturday the 5th of December.  We hope to rent our town hall and offer an introduction for our new meat shares, cheese and maple syrup.

We have organically produced maple syrup from the Baxter State Park area of Maine.  We have 4 gallon containers, 96 quarts and 72 pints.

 Grade A dark amber

 Pints $13

Quart $24

Gallon $62

We anticipate selling out of the syrup by the 2nd week in November. Email your orders to heavensharvestfarm@yahoo.com

Consider giving some of this marvelous elixer as Holiday gifts! You will be a hit in your family groups!

All pertinent information for meat shares, artisan cheeses, maple syrup and home baked breads on line soon.  Look for it! We also have great local grains available from Northfield, MA including soft winter wheat and pearled barley.

Let us know what you think!
