Greetings from the farm to
all our valued CSA members
We
were so grateful to receive a good soaking 2 hours rain on Saturday. Most of our crops were in serious danger as
were many other farmers crops with the lack of rain over the past 3-4
weeks. One of my farmer friends, who
you have received blueberries from, lost 2- 15,000 dozen fields of corn.
Today’s
share represents 75% from
Heavens
Harvest and 25 % from several of our collaborative partner farms. Everyone’s share box will be full to the
max. Our tomatoes and eggplant are right around the corner, probably some
tomatoes within the week and eggplant 2 weeks out. Our very own organic corn that we have
grown on plastic with raised beds, will be ready within the next two weeks
and we are so excited!!!! It looks good so far and will enable us to have
another source for organic corn which is truly hard to find these days.
It
would be great if you felt compelled to send us some feedback that is both
positive and informational to help us consider other possibilities in our
growing, production and packing for our shares.
This
has got to be the best year yet for variety, quality and quantity of
veggies/fruit in our CSA member’s box. We have continued to receive a number
of new members on a weekly basis who have heard about us through you or who
have just moved into the area.
I
know it sounds too early for some but we need to move forward regarding our
fall shares with more information coming from us in the next several
weeks. It will be a 9 or 10 week share
with even more additions of product variety. This will enable us to keep you
fully stocked with much late summer and fall goodness.
This
week there will be additional items in the full shares in addition to the
items mentioned on the produce lists to the left. A few pieces of CSA
housekeeping are in order:
1.
Many of you have purchased your share with partial payments. If you did one third at a time your second
payment is now due. If you have purchased you share in half payment the
second payment is due this week.
(Some spring CSA members still owe us partial and a few full payments
for their spring shares. You know who you are. We really don’t want to be the payment
police. Please settle your accounts as
we need this money in order to continue to operate efficiently, effectively
and with the ability to provide an excellent share for all.)
2.
Please unfold your box at your site without ripping the tabs!
If
you bend the slat like an accordion the tab will easily slide out of the
opening that they fit into. This is on
the bottom of your box. Some are
ripping the tabs on the top as well which renders the box useless for us. Also, please take your own rubbish from the
delivery site including pieces of corn stalk and any other debris that is necessary. Please allow your site host to do their
part without having to clean up after individual members.
3.
If you contact the farm via email or phone, please include for us the last
name that appears on your csa delivery box, your site location and contact
info if you want something other than an email return. We sometimes receive emails with names but
no other info. With almost 700 members
it is hard to memorize location and info of each member who may request a
return email or phone call. Thank you
for your attention to this matter. It
really helps us to be organized.
For
those of you who have inquired about meat shares I will get to you this week
with info and availability. Some have
ordered syrup. We have 2 cases of 35 -
40 quarts and 2 gallons still available. I would love to include the gorgeous
and delectable artisan cheese but need members to order by Thursday of the
week prior to their desired delivery.
If
you haven’t been to our facebook page or joined in with the blog-like
discussion with recipes and how to use Heavens Harvest produce, please do
so. Those who have, find it a great
way to figure out how to cook for themselves and others in a new and healthy
way. Also, check out the recipe
section for this week!
We
are now into the second third of our CSA.
We hope you are all savoring the sunlight, the warmth and the
greenery. Store it up for when we are
having our first Nor’easter.
Once
again, thank you all for your partnership, your support in giving us the
opportunity to serve you with the rich goodness of Massachusetts
organically grown or IPM produced vegetables and fruit.
Many
of the good Lord’s blessings to you all.
